Jewelry Care Tips

To be sure your gemstones always sparkle, it is important to clean them periodically. Here are some recommended methods.

Professional Cleaning

This is the best option, as it is important to have your jewelry checked by a qualified jeweler occasionally to make sure the gemstones are secure.

Diamond Jewelry Care

Soak your diamond jewelry in a solution of warm water and any mild liquid detergent. Using a soft toothbrush, gently brush the jewelry. Be sure to rinse your jewelry with warm water and then dry each piece with a dry, lint-free cloth.
Or
Soak your diamond jewelry for thirty minutes in a 50:50 solution of household ammonia and cold water/. Remove the jewelry from the solution and gently clean the piece with small soft brush. Swish the piece in the ammonia water solution again and then rinse and dry.

Gemstone Care

Although most transparent colored gemstones can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild liquid detergent, it is very important to have a professional clean jewelry set with colored gemstones. Some helpful tips for cleaning colored gemstones would be to only use liquid soaps that are non-abrasive, lukewarm water and a very soft toothbrush or hands. Gently apply soap with your hands and rinse repeatedly using consistent lukewarm water. Avoid drastic temperature changes as it may cause certain gemstones such as opals to crack. To dry, use a lint-free cloth.

Never

Never wear jewelry when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening or exercise.
Never expose jewelry to household cleaning products.
Never expose jewelry to chlorine swimming pools or hot tubs.

Always

Apply lotion, cosmetics, hairspray and perfume before dressing in jewelry.
When undressing, wipe each piece with a clean soft cloth to remove oils and perspiration.
Store in a fabric-lined box, separately or individually-wrapped in tissue to prevent scratches.
